nurtured. As they continue to grow this contemporary ` olelo no`eau is a
reminder of their special place in the world along with their relationship and
kuleana to the ocean and our natural environment.
Na Kama Kai’s mission is to empower youth by creating, conducting and
supporting ocean-based programs, specifically targeting ocean awareness & safety
in order to increase the capacity of youth in the community through cultural &
environmental education.

Na Kama Kai Ocean Clinics service our community statewide through
touching the lives of our youth in numerous capacities. Our ocean clinics are
designed to instill an awareness of the ocean and provide the keiki with safety
tools necessary for ocean activities. Through the expertise of professional
watermen and women the keiki are given one-on-one ocean instruction in a
hands on environment.
The Program
A total of 150 keiki will have the pleasure of experiencing traditional wooden
surf board shaping with Pohaku which we call "Kalai Papa He'e Nalu". Next each
keiki will enter the water for a 30 minute one-on-one stand-up lesson which we
call "Ku Hoe". Following that each keiki will enter a Hawaiian canoe(wa'a) and
experience a 20 minute canoe ride which we call "Hoe Wa'a". Finally the keiki
will debrief with a 20 minute marine biology/environmental awareness activity.
In total the keiki will spend approximately 1hour 30minutes each in Na Kama Kai.

Saturday June 12
Location Main Event Course
Sign-up: Na Kama Kai Activities Area
Entry fee: $15.00 includes competitor’s kit including Rainbow Sandals key chain,
water bottle and lunch.
Start times
10 & under 11:00 a.m.
11 & 12 11:25 a.m.
13 & 14 11:50 a.m.
15 & 16 12:15 p.m.
The Course
Keiki (boys & girls) paddlers must complete one (1) lap around the designated
course. Course lengths vary depending on age groups and skill level. All keiki
paddlers will exit water without board and finish through finish chute with
paddle in hand.
The course is around all buoys as directed by the Beachmaster/starter. At no
time during the race may a competitor impede another competitor. Unsportsmanlike
conduct/actions will result in disqualification. Any competitor failing to round
all buoys will be disqualified from the race.
At the finish, keiki paddlers leave your board on shore, run through exchange
area to the finish line in control of your paddle.
Na Kama Kai Ohana Relays

Time: 2:00 P.M.

Entry Fee: $100.00 per team
Each team must be meet the following criteria:
• Keiki 11 and Under
• Kupuna - 55 Years and older
• Wahine – Female
• Kane - Male
The Na Kama Kai Ohana SUP Relay Race teams must have four (4) persons that
consist of the following – Keiki (11 & under), kupuna (55years or older), wahine
(female) and kane (male). The SUP Surf Relay Race will be contested on stock
(12’6”) SUP boards for kupuna, wahine & kane, keiki’s are allowed on any board
of their choosing, and will compete four (4) laps of an off-shore circuit that
will also include an exchange area where they must beach their equipment for a
short sand run around a course flag.
Each member of the relay team must complete (1) lap of the course in relay
fashion.
Only one (2) boards can be used for the SUP Surf Relay race. In case of
equipment malfunction or damaged equipment the relay team may use a back up
board to complete the race.
Course:
