What Is Proposition 65?
California Proposition 65 requires businesses to warn California consumers about potential exposure to chemicals identified by the State of California as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
The Proposition 65 list contains more than 900 naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals. These chemicals may be found in consumer products, foods, household items, workplaces, or the environment.
Why Does This Warning Appear?
Certain materials used in footwear, including leather, adhesives, dyes, and other components, may result in exposure to chemicals included on the Proposition 65 list.
You may see the following warning on certain Rainbow Sandals products:
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including leather dust and naphthalene, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer; toluene, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm; and chromium (hexavalent compounds), which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. What Does the Warning Mean?
A Proposition 65 warning does not mean that a product violates applicable safety or health standards. The warning provides California consumers with information about potential chemical exposure so they can make informed purchasing decisions.
